Hi, my name is Nishant and I am a Sneaky Artist.

In this page, I tell you about myself, my work, and how I came to invent this job title. (Apparently we are allowed to do that sort of thing?)

As a Sneaky Artist, Nishant Jain sits in public spaces with a sketchbook and fountain pen, making secret drawings of city life. His art celebrates urban coexistence, the urban amenities & environments that allow us to live around each other.

I grew up in Kolkata (India) and, like many young people of my generation, studied engineering. After a BTech in Mechanical Engineering, and an MSc in Biomechanical Design, I left halfway through a PhD program in Neuroscience to commit to my true passion - writing & telling stories.

I had plans to be a novelist and political satirist. Art was not in the picture until a devastating writer’s block left me unable to complete my debut novel. Frustrated with words, but eager to chase my curiosity, I started observing and drawing the people of my new world in the beautiful city of Chicago (IL, USA). Thus began an unexpected journey to become a sneaky artist.

After living in Chicago and Eau Claire (WI), I moved to Vancouver (Canada) in 2021. In 2024, I took on my most challenging full-time job - as a father!

Get in touch to learn more about my work, to commission art, or collaborate on a project. I would love to hear from you!
